About the RIGGS Cup
The RIGGS Cup has been a big part of our personal story here at Totem and the Leeton/Griffth community for the last 20 years. Richard O’Hara(Riggs) was by far one of the best skaters in the area when we were growing up. Riggs was one of those guys who was frighteningly great at everything he tried. Unfortunately, Richie took his own life at the peak of his skating and Basketball career. Having this happen to such an inspirational young person hit the community hard, so we decided to celebrate Richard’s life in a yearly Skate comp and named it the RIGGS Cup.

The first RIGGS cup was in 2003, just 3 years after we had finished the new skatepark. It was a massive event that brought communities around the area together to celebrate Richie’s life and shine a light on mental health. It was a beautiful day that has become part of the area’s story and a cornerstone of our work at Totem.

Thanks to the @leetonshirecouncil for supporting this event over the last 21 years. Also, thanks to @boystothebush & @wellwaysau, for supporting the event!

FREE ROAD SAFETY for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Youth.

Come along to the Tamworth Skatepark and join the Totem Skateboarding team to learn about Road Safety with a FREE 3-hour workshop thanks to Transport for NSW.

Learn about Road Safety in a fun, safe and engaging way, and take home a FREE Aboriginal print helmet and complete Element Skateboard. Fresh fruit, water, and water bottles and tote bags are for each participant.

This program will increase your knowledge and understanding of:

• Visibility whilst riding.

• Relevant road rules.

• Safe places to ride.

• Skateboard/Scooter maintenance.

• The need to wear correctly fitted helmets.

• The consequences of not wearing a helmet.

IMPORTANT; PLEASE NOTE: This Transport for NSW program is for youth aged 6 to 18 years old who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders.

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Professional-grade equipment, skateboards, scooters and safety pads are provided at this workshop. Safety pads (optional) are provided for all classes. You are also encouraged to bring your own equipment and get a free safety check by the pros!

Free Skate classes: beginners Class, Mentoring session & JAM

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Come along to Dareton Public School and attend our FREE Community Skate Workshop.

Learn to Skate Beginner class and Mentoring skate session followed by a Skate & Scooter JAM with loads of prizes up for grabs!

This workshop is for ages 11 to 24 years.

SCHEDULE

9 am - 9:15 am: Beginner class registration

9:15 am - 10:15 am: Beginner skate class (1hr class. Suitable for newcomer and beginner skaters with little to no experience on a board and at a skatepark.)

10:15 am - 10:20 am: Skate Demo

10:20 am - 10:35 am: Mentoring session for Intermediate Skaters registration

10:35 am - 11:20 am: Mentoring session for Intermediate Skaters (45min class. Suitable for skaters that know the foundational skills and want to start exploring tricks and advance to the next level.)

11:20 am - 12:50 pm: Skate and Scooter JAM session - (Open to all ages.)

11:20 am - 12:50 pm: Community Interaction / Close program hand out Stickers.

12:50 pm - 1:00 pm: Community Interaction / Close program hand out Stickers.
