Totem takes skateboarding to rural areas around the country.
Growing up in the country can be tough sometimes, so we take our skate artillery on the road to small towns around the country, giving young people a personal and unique skateboarding experience.
It is with the help of supportive councils, parents, businesses and organisations that we are lucky enough to run our skate focused events in regional and rural areas. These range from skateboarding workshops, skate park openings, competitions, community fun days, demonstrations and skate park planning.
Established in 2010, we have been humbled and inspired by how communities have received us, which has reiterated to us the importance of grass roots programs like ours.
We organise large scale community events that can see us coaching up to 50 young people in a day, to private coaching sessions where we work closely with individuals. No matter the size or structure of the event our ethos remains the same: To develop self esteem, personal identity and self image through positive attitudes and activities - skateboarding is simply our vehicle for this message.
We have had the opportunity to work with some very special Australian organisations including, The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence, Young People Without Borders, Weave Youth Services, Three Sixty Project, Street Creature, Bundeena Youth Centre and countless supportive Councils (Leeton, Whitton, Sydney City, Wagga, Darlington Point, Colleambally, Hillston, Hay, Deniliquin).
Although based in Sydney, we annually travel thousands of kilometres to take skateboarding to rural communities. We believe no town is too small to host a skateboarding event for their young people.
We tailor each event to the specific needs of every council/organisation we work with. We bring all our own professional-grade equipment that includes skateboards, helmets, a PA system, music, prize packs, Totem stickers and with the help of the skate community we often have some great prizes for the kids to take home.
